PolyU Funded Patent Technology Enhances Hotel Indoor Air Quality and Energy
Enhancing PAU and AHU Air Purification
As part of the project, Sambo provided their expertise to improve the air quality provided by the PAU (Packaged Air Unit) and AHU (Air Handling Unit) equipment. They utilized their patented technology product, "Silver Ion+Light Self-Cleaning Nano Liquid", to spray and treat the filter membrane, coil, drain pan, outlet, and return air outlet of the wind cabinet. This treatment helps decompose indoor odors, harmful gases, bacteria, and viruses, ensuring a healthier environment for guests.

Monitoring Indoor Air Quality
To assess the effectiveness of the improvements, technical personnel from the PolyU’s BEEE (Building Energy and Environmental Engineering) department collaborated with the project team. They employed professional instruments to measure and record indoor air quality parameters such as formaldehyde, VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), and bacterial levels at regular intervals. This data will be collected, compared, and analyzed to evaluate the impact of the project.

Guest Room Modifications Overview
GUEST ROOM 1
In this room, the original FCU will remain unchanged. However, a kWh meter and a timer will be installed to record power consumption and operating hours over a specific period. An AIQ (Air Indoor Quality) monitor, supplied by the BEEE department, will be installed to monitor and record IAQ parameters, providing valuable reference data.
GUEST ROOM 2
The original FCU panel will be replaced with a new factory pre-coated panel using Sambo's patented silver Ion and water scale preventive coating material. The fan blower and the entire metal case of the FCU will be coated with Sambo's silver Ion coating material. The fan blower will be driven by a Mictronics PMS (Permanent Magnet Synchronous) motor, optimizing energy efficiency. Power consumption will be recorded using a kWh meter, and IAQ parameters will be monitored using an AIO (All-In-One) air monitor supplied by the PolyU BEEE department.
GUEST ROOM 3
Similar to Guest Room 2, the FCU will have the same coating and energy-saving features. Additionally, a newly designed Return Air Inlet Unit will replace the existing metal filter. This unit will incorporate a coated metal filter, UVC lamp, and an Active Carbon Filter, further enhancing IAQ within the room.
At Hotel ICON, we are committed to providing a healthy and environmentally friendly guest experience. Through collaborations with industry experts and the implementation of innovative technologies, the hotel aims to improve indoor air quality and energy efficiency. The data collected from the collaboration experiment will guide future sustainable initiatives, ensuring a greener tomorrow for both guests and the environment.
