Girls, Girls, Girls!
Maybe it’s a girl thing, but it’s the bath that brings me back to Hotel ICON. When you sit in it, the water comes up to your shoulders and if you add the generous bath products supplied in every room, the whole experience adds up to instant relaxation!

Actually it’s not just the bath of course. As a woman travelling for work, I want to stay in a hotel where I can feel at home and just a little bit special. Last time I checked in I was shown to a room with a spectacular view and just about every detail I might need, already taken care of. An iron and ironing board (useful after unpacking creased cottons and you don’t want to pay for a laundry service) a stationary box which appeals to me, a free cellphone for local use, mini bottles of wine and chocolate! The room was so comfortable I might have chosen not to leave it at all, but I did to enjoy a complimentary cocktail in Above & Beyond where I was made to feel welcome and could work uninterrupted but for the spectacular harbour view!
The staff here are very well trained and manage to be both observant and discreet at the same time. Some of them are learning and come from the hotel school next door which makes me like the hotel a little bit more. They are actually bothering to enable the education of the elite students from the Hospitality School and they do it quietly and carefully. |
Anyway, I went to the gym on the 9th floor where you can work out or swim (on typhoonless days - I arrived an hour before Pakhar) up and down with a wonderful view across to Hong Kong Island. There is a female only steam room and a spa where the stress of work is eliminated with bliss inducing treatments. Last time I had a full body massage late in the evening before dropping into a bed so comfortable and huge I worried I might not want to get up!
As a woman traveling for work around the world, I want to be in a hotel environment where I don’t need to worry about anything and Hotel ICON will always be my hotel of choice in Hong Kong. So what that it is across the bay from the main island. Getting the atmospheric Star Ferry across the harbour and feeling like a commuter is part of the fun, and the hotel provides a regular shuttle bus to get you to the ferry or the brilliant shopping on the Kowloon side so there’s no need for FOMO! It’s better on this side actually and not just for the view! |

Hotel ICON has thought of everything. The food is good and plentiful (try the mini gluten free muffins at breakfast but don’t blame me if you have seconds!) and you can eat alone without feeling everyone is wondering if you have been stood up! Oh, and one last and important thing. For those of us who like good coffee, they make the best cappuccinos here.
