Tea, movies and star gazing!

ART & CULTURE

Muse Fest 2017 is coming to Hong Kong from June 24 to July 9 and is the third museum festival held in the city featuring nearly 100 different history, art and film activities.

The idea behind Muse is to build key connections between different museums and build interest in people, as part of this year’s theme – “rippling”- and the thought that museums are places where ideas can ignite.

The festival has four categories, namely the Muse Fest Special Activity Series, the Museum Inside Out Activity Series, the Exhibition and Film Show Series and the Educational and Extension Activity Series. A few highlights are:

The Secret Tea Recipe of "Kamcha King" activity to be held on July 9 at the Sam Tung Uk Museum will see the winner of the International Kamcha Competition give a demonstration and share the secret of how to make a smooth cup of Hong Kong-style milk tea.

Museum curators from different fields will speak at four sharing sessions under the "Travelling with Curators" Talk Series about their travelling experiences in Hong Kong, Macau, the Mainland, Japan, London and Paris. They will tell the stories of the places they travelled to in terms of their culture, history and art. They will also discuss the impact of travelling on their personal growth and development.

Several film screenings coupled with post-screening talks will be offered in the "Film Crossover Series". The "Film x Literature: The Touch of Gold - Jin Yong & Hong Kong Cinema" film screenings to be held at the Hong Kong Film Archive will present six films written or directed by the renowned writer Dr Louis Cha (pen name Jin Yong) or adapted from his novels. These will include a film tailor-made for the actress Hsia Moon, "The Peerless Beauty", and the film that he co-directed with Hu Siao-fung, "Bride Hunter".

The activity "Amazing Technology X Conservation = ∞ Surprise", to be held at the Hong Kong Science Museum, just down the road from Hotel ICON will integrate conservation with a virtual reality game, enabling visitors to learn more about conservation work.

"Go Stargazing with the Curators" will be held on June 27 at the Hong Kong Space Museum. The curators of the museum will introduce stargazing knowledge and techniques to the participants and teach them how to do stargazing with telescopes.

To make life easier to get around the activities, a free hop-on and hop-off bus service, will be organised, offering the public a wonderful experience of visiting different museums in the territory with six specially designed thematic routes.
