A Wine Revolution
It wasn’t that long ago in Hong Kong, when the city’s wine lists spoke only French. The idea of buying or drinking wines from California or Australia was unthinkable. Now the world has shifted and a new breed of premium wine brands jostle for precious shelf space in the city.
Hong Kong’s wine scene continues apace, with the advent of a new kind of aficionado happy to spend a little more and willing to try things from less common producers with an emphasis on organic wines.
Organic wine is made from grapes grown without pesticides and chemicals, is kind to the environment and rarely triggers hangovers (which is good!) Sales of organic wine are booming as part of the growing trend for “conscious consumerism”.
But apart from anything, organic wines also taste better, perhaps due to less intensive production using fewer synthetic chemicals. But apart from anything, organic wines also taste better, perhaps due to less intensive production using fewer synthetic chemicals.
Soon in Hotel ICON’s GREEN we will be introducing a new wine list to keep up with the times. Wines will be available by the glass giving guests the chance to sample different grapes and regions around the world. |
