Taking Charge - Formula E Brings Electric Street Racing to Hong Kong

On 2 and 3 December, head to the Central Harbourfront to catch a glimpse of the latest electric racecars making hairpin turns in the wake of the city’s spectacular skyline. Highlights of the event include the E-Prix, which takes place on a purpose-built track with major landmarks like IFC, the Hong Kong Observation Wheel and City Hall as a backdrop and the E-Village featuring champagne celebrations, driver autograph sessions, interactive racing simulators, and a musical festival featuring live “EJs”.

Formula E is perfectly aligned with Hotel ICON’s own commitment to electric vehicles and environmental practices. As an industry leader, having recently has been awarded the CarbonCare® Label by Carbon Care Asia Ltd, the hotel has just introduced Hong Kong’s first electric hotel shuttle bus, which joined its fleet of Tesla Model S and BMW i3 cars electric cars, reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint while allowing guests to travel in the ultimate luxury, efficiency and style.

Guests who enter Hotel ICON will be immediately awe-struck by an 18-metre tall wall filled with lush greenery—the largest indoor vertical garden in Asia—designed by French botanist Patrick Blanc, which is visually stunning while producing fresh, pure oxygen and reducing the amount of energy needed for heating and cooling. The guest check-in process is now fully paperless, which saved 2.39 tons of paper in 2016 alone. The hotel’s stunning outdoor swimming pool is heated using solar energy and converted waste energy, and when a venue or room space isn’t in use, sensors switch off all lights and electrical functions. All glass, plastic, aluminum and paper is recycled throughout the hotel and guests are given the option to save water by washing their towels and linens only when necessary. Guests are also provided with a complimentary Hotel ICON tote bag to reduce the use of plastic or non-recyclable bags when shopping around town. In cooperation with charitable initiative Food Angels, all surplus food from the hotel’s restaurants is donated to local families in need.
